Cenotaph
Intersection of Dagmar Avenue, Hannah Street and Marier Avenue
The cenotaph honours the memory of soldiers from Eastview (later known as Vanier) who fought in World War I (1914-1918), World War ll (1939-1945) and the Korean War (1950-1953).
Many of the soldier’s names are from Vanier’s founding families, such as McCormick, Lalonde, Caron and Weatherhall. The deceased soldiers who sacrificed their lives to defend our freedom were, for the most part, quite young, many in their early twenties.
The cenotaph is made of imported granite and was built in 1965 by the contracting firm Leeder and Poitras for the sum of $2,000.
