Mural of the restaurant Il Vagabondo

186 Barrette Street. Artist: Karole Marois (2000). 7” x 28”

Painted on “Il Vagabondo”, an Italian restaurant, this mural illustrates a streetcar, a popular means of transportation in Canadian towns at the turn of the century. Streetcars travelled on suspended electrical wires, which looked like a spider web in the sky. In Eastview, streetcars ran east to west down Beechwood Avenue.

The mural represents the founders of Eastview and its first leaders, including W.R. Cummings, Eastview’s first reeve (when Eastview was still a village in 1909) and Camille Gladu, Eastview’s first mayor in 1913.
