Vanier Community Service Centre Mural
292 Place Dupuis. Artist: Karole Marois (2006)
This mural illustrates various forms of assistance provided by the Vanier Community Services Centre.
Since 1980, the Vanier Community Services Centre has provided assistance to many people in the community. The centre provides many services, including legal aid, counselling, employment assistance, health support and much more. The centre’s services are aimed particularly at families, recently arrived people, and young children. It strives to serve the people of Vanier in French while making citizens aware of social problems and their individual rights. Mutual aid evenings, soup kitchens and family activities are some of the means used to achieve these goals.
Dupuis Street Park
Access to Dupuis Street has been closed by the city, which turned it into a landscaped rest area equipped with benches. This park is located in front of a series of fairly impressive buildings, while not being itself without architectural value, and it provides a pleasant atmosphere. Note the G. Peter Smith federal building, where the Commissioner of review tribunals and the Canada pension plans occupies office space. A bit further, on the same side, is the Vanier Community Services Centre, at 200 Dupuis St. The decorated building across the street is a residence for seniors.
